ENOUGH OF MEMORANDOM OF UNDERDEVELOPMENT (MOU) IN EDO STATE

Governor Godwin Obaseki was inaugurated in 2016 amidst fanfare and thunderous hope that the foundational structures which Oshiomhole had laid will be further entrenched by the Governor Godwin led administration. Disingenuously, he led everyone to believe he was a technocrat with a sound mind capable of taking Edo forward. Little did anyone knows that the Judas traits of his forebears are very much with him. Even though Comrade Adams was warned of this reality, he never saw a man with so much calm disposition to turn out a be a better traitor than his grandfather.

Obaseki unstrapped his dictatorial tendencies as soon as he took over power, he created tributaries off all the ministries manned by Senior Special Assistance (SSA) to undermine the statutory ministries and their commissioners. To prove that he already had a script, the day he inaugurated commissioners he assured them that he will make them poorer than they came into government. This was a threat carried to the latter as all the ministries were reduced to distribution of file without any ministerial responsibilities to address. The commissioner for information for instance was reduced to consuming daily editorial without any functional responsibilities throughout his tenure. Little wonder why he resigned when he was later considered relevant to be doing dirty job of image laundering of comrade Adams Aliu Oshiomhole.

Having succeeded in sustaining the narrative that Obaseki is working and on ground with Edo people. The question every sane Edo sons and daughters should be asking is what has Obaseki truly done, how much development has Obaseki brought to Edo state? The colourful state of Edo state today is to the point Oshiomhole left it, it is even worse off because he has not been able to sustain the development of Oshiomhole. Remember the water fountain that famously adorned ring road? Today, that is a shadow of itself, I recall when his special adviser, Crusoe Osagie was addressing the “Man around town radio program of ITV”, he said that the money to maintain the Ring Road has been channelled to other sectors. One continues to wonder why they are not campaigning with these monumental infrastructures to back up the claims that Obaseki is developing Edo state. The hallmark of Obaseki campaign in 2016 was the provision of 200,000 jobs and he promised to turn Edo state to industrial hub but after many failed MOU, Edo state is greatly begging for developmental attention.

Craftily, Obaseki has used the Technocrat demeanour armed with a well organised media hype to greatly deceive Edo people. I beg to ask, where are the fruits of the following:  Alaghodaro 1, 2,& 3, Gegele Sea port, Azura Power project, Uselu Market solar power electrification flag off by the Vice President Prof. Yemi Osibanjo, Agripreneur, Industrial hub and many more.

Obaseki led government is indeed a power point led government where ideas a carefully brandished with no requisite reality on ground. Edo job which was created to deliver on the promise of 200,000 has become a conduit pipe of syphoning government money through which phoney trainings are heavily budgeted for with little or no impacts. The agency which boast of providing job to Edo youths offers nothing but a job board that tries to match potential job seekers with recruiting employers. The question is how many industries do we have in Edo State or what enabling environment has the govt created to support employment generation. With attendants of high criminality, investors are running away from the city. In Benin City the state capital, business shut down from 6 to 7pm because of the fear of criminals.

When Obaseki set out to renovate inner streets within edo state, thousands of naira were spent to erect sign post praising the governor for road construction yet to be embarked on, the ones eventually carried out where washed away by erosion.

There are many more of these cosmetics projects too numerous to mentioned that greatly suggest that Obaseki has mortgaged the future of Edo people.

Pandemonium was let loose yesterday by personnel hired to screen populace of corona virus as they are yet to be paid. This has further proved the deceptive tendencies of the Obaseki Led administration.  The whole corona screening charade that was well hyped in the media was simply a hoax designed to inflate the spending on corona virus and to use the narrative to push his political agenda.

To allow him continue at the helms of affair will be a costly MOU with the Edo people that must be resisted by all well-meaning Edo Sons and Daughters. 

The commissioner for art and culture has been in absentia for months, news have it that he was arrested for money laundering. A governor who is fighting for edo people hasn’t seen the need to address Edo people of his whereabouts. 

A governor who consistently cry foul that his disaffection with the APC leaders was his refusal to share money and that he will rather work for the Edo people has been observed by the whole world how he rained dollars in the people’s Democratic Party to buy his expired nomination.

Obaseki should be rightly called what he is, we can’t be fooled anymore.
