Edo APC and Matters Arising

The Tenure of the Governor of Edo State will expire on the 11th day of November 2020.

According to INEC guidelines, Conduct of Party Primaries including resolution of disputes arising from the Primaries must be done between 2nd June – 27th June.

So soon breeze go blow and fowl yansh go open.

Whether we like it or not each day brings us to the reality on the ground as regards the Edo 2020 governorship elections.

Obaseki who is on the final lap to grasp the control of the APC is already on his way out of the party hence his renewed efforts at ridiculing the party and Adams Oshiomhole.

Obaseki has two options which are organizing a parallel congress or picking a fresh party. Whatever options Obaseki has, how does the APC and Adams Oshiomhole plan to stop his onslaught?

The battle APC has with Obaseki in all sincerity is a Statewide problem, Obaseki’s administration is described as the most intolerant, tyrannical, retrogressive and insensitive government since the return to democracy in 1999.

Obaseki has so many enemies that even transcends the political scene.

Accused with bringing capitalism into governance, Obaseki is alleged to be amassing self wealth to the detriment of the growth of the state and its citizens.

As we speak properties of opposition members are been compiled to be revoked or demolished.

Many see this fight as a collective fight to liberate the State from its tyrannical rule laced with blackmail.

All agencies under the State Government is under the direct control of the trio, Obaseki, Shaibu and Osarodion Ogie they administer the state like their personal farms.

Practically the people have joined hands with Adams Oshiomhole and the APC to rescue the State from Obaseki.

So what must Oshiomhole and the APC do to stop Obaseki?

"Una never see anything, ontop una suffering Obaseki go pop Champagne if una like make una give am chance to come back."

That was how a top APC stalwart from Lagos state described the plight of the APC in Edo State.

Today the rising popularity Adams Oshiomhole and the APC aspirants enjoy is because the people see them as their liberator from the clutches of retrogression and hate.

The APC should as a matter of urgency close its borders, as at the 4th of May some APC members were still joining the race for the governorship.

Is this the priority now? the party should be focused on its cohesion, not some people joining the party on the eve of a heated consensus arrangement.

The party should close its doors to fresh aspirants and as a matter of urgency come up with the best team the party feels it has the capacity to dethrone Obaseki.

The political aspirants should also as a matter of urgency reach out to their followers to stop the spread of malicious stories amongst themselves.

Each and every weapon tossed within their camp would be used as arsenals against the party in the general elections.

In as much as the consensus arrangement is presently on the hands of the leadership of the party then adherents of the major aspirants should take caution in arming the Obaseki’s camp.

Their internal battle should not be used to fuel the insinuation peddled by the Obaseki’s camp that the struggle to unseat the unappreciative Obaseki is as a result of personal interest.

Like earlier stated thousands of Edolites have realized the mistake they made in electing Godwin Obaseki four years ago and they are ready to throw their support for whoever is brave enough to confront Obaseki.

To these group of people, it is anybody but Obaseki.

Obaseki’s misdemeanour is endless.

APC should realize that it is entering into a battle that it can not afford to fail.

The rivalry between the supporters over the delay of the consensus arrangement is unhealthy.

If the aspirants have come this far together then the process should be concluded without rancour or split of the support base.

All Obaseki’s proponents want to see is failure.

The APC would be entering this battle with two political parties, which is the PDP and Obaseki’s adopted party.

The PDP is formidable in the sense that the last general elections held in the State, PDP had a good showing.

Investigations show that EDO South lost the elections to PDP(both senate and reps) due to Obaseki’s style of politics the people resent.

Have it in good authority that if there is a sympathy vote the people would prefer giving it to PDP than the APC or Obaseki’s party.

Obaseki leaving to a new party should not be a threat, instead, the PDP should be the threat if the Authentic APC refuses to put its house in order.

Adams Oshiomhole and the APC as a matter of urgency should be able to assuage its followers that all is well by promoting the same unity of purpose which has brought them thus far.

Obaseki is the common enemy that needs to be crushed.

From the above, these are the majors APC should attend to.

Close your borders. (Governorship entrance)

Talk to your followers let the comradeship continue.

Give us an acceptable candidate.

With these three simple rules, the majority of the people would continue to see the APC and Adams Oshiomhole as the champions of the struggle.

These are all the personal opinion of the writer Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah and it is in no way associated with any aspirant, party member or the office of the APC.
